Local Hamilton company Wash Rite have decided to clean war veterans' houses for free, as a way of honouring their service to our country.

Both Wash Rite owners Troy Hillard and Matt Faber are ex-servicemen themselves and feel there is often a lack of respect and support for those who have served in the armed forces.

This is the second year Wash Rite have provided this service. In 2016 they washed 14 houses and treated nine roofs. This year they washed 24 houses in Hamilton and Waikato.
On April 17, Hamilton East Labour Candidate Jamie Strange helped Troy clean the roof of New Zealand Navy serviceman Chris McMaster.

Chris served in the NZ Navy between 1979 and 1985.

As someone who is passionate about supporting local businesses, I feel inspired when I see this type of activity taking place.

Chris received a free moss and mould roof treatment. While at Chris' house, Troy even washed a portion of Chris' neighbour's roof that needed work, without cost.

"As someone who is passionate about supporting local businesses, I feel inspired when I see this type of activity taking place. Troy and his team are honouring our Anzac veterans, who risked their lives to protect our country. I enjoyed being involved, doing my small part to help clean Chris' roof," Jamie said.

"My father-in-law fought in Borneo and Vietnam, and our family greatly respect the sacrifice he made. We must never forget the price that has been paid for us to enjoy the freedom we have."
