One person has been seriously injured and another is in custody after an assault in Hamilton.

Police said an assault was reported to them at about 1am.

The incident took place on Tongariro St in Chartwell, Hamilton.

“It looks like the victim was taken to hospital with serious injuries and one person was taken into custody,” police said.

“We’re just making some further inquiries at the moment.”

Hato Hone St John was notified of a disorder incident and responded with an ambulance, rapid response unit and manager.

“Our crews assessed and treated one patient, who was transported to Waikato Hospital in a serious condition, and one patient in a minor condition, who was treated at the scene.”
