Facility owner Shane Vincent at Any Time Fitness' new pool.

Since the new Fastlane Fitness gym on the corner of Victoria and Rostrevor Streets opened last December, memberships have trebled compared to the gym that used to sit on the site.

And with its new state-of-the-art pool complex set to open on August 28, it looks like it well be even more popular.

Facility owner Shane Vincent said the the facility was the only one of its type in Hamilton, and included a weights room, cardio area, function rooms and aerobic theatre.

"There's never been a complex like this in Hamilton that has everything in one building," he said. "It's far cry from the block storage unit that the previous gym occupied."

With a budget of more than $10 million, Mr Vincent said he has always been determined to incorporate a pool.

"I'm a triathlete so my aim was to build a pool complex."

Another feature to be unveiled at the end of August will be the flow pool, a smaller pool with a directional current for training, which has the added feature of being able to be heated to be used for rehabilitation purposes.

The only other flow pool of this kind in Hamilton is at the University of Waikato.

From the first conversations with the building owners, it has taken three years to reach the opening stage.
