Eight fire trucks from Te Awamutu, Hamilton, Cambridge and Pirongia arrived at the scene, battling the flames and smoke for at least an hour.

A fire has gutted a house near Te Awamutu.

Multiple callers reported a fire in a home on Thompson Rd, south of Ohaupo, at 11.57am.

The fire reportedly started in the roof of the brick and wooden house.

It is believed two workers had been installing a heat pump.

The fire ripped through the house due to the windy conditions.
