Fatal crash near Te Kauwhata in Waikato

One person has been killed and six others injured in a crash near Te Kauwhata in Waikato.

The two-car crash happened on Waerenga Rd at 3.50pm.

Police said two people, one in a critical condition, were airlifted to hospital while at least three others were taken by ambulance.

A spokeswoman for Auckland Westpac Rescue said earlier today that two people were critically injured.

Two Auckland Westpac Rescue choppers were at the scene of the crash.

Waerenga Rd has been reopened.
