A large amount of cream has spilt on to a 10km-long stretch of State Highway 3 from a truck.

The spill, between Te Awamutu and Ōhaupō, prompted police to urge motorists to “take extra caution to stop their journey going sour”.

Police were alerted to the incident around 3.50am, a spokesperson said.

“The road is being cleaned and motorists are asked to take care.”
