Emergency services are at the scene of a serious two-vehicle crash in Hamilton.

Police were called to the incident on Wairere Drive in Queenwood about 7.12am, police said.

“Initial indications are there have been serious injuries,” a police spokesperson said.

“Diversions will be in place, and motorists are asked to avoid the area.”

Hato Hone St John said it was notified of a motor vehicle incident at 7.15am on Wairere Dr, Queenwood, Hamilton.

“Two ambulances and two rapid response vehicles attended,” a spokesperson said.

“Two patients, one in a critical condition and one in a moderate condition, were transported by road to Waikato Hospital.”

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokesperson said a call came in about an accident involving a truck and a car at 7.15am. Three fire trucks from Chartwell, Te Rapa, and Hamilton attended.

”One person was trapped ... We extricated that person from the vehicle. Our job ended there.”

A NZME reporter at the scene said the footpath and road were closed from the Wairere Dr and Hukanui Road roundabout.

“There’s traffic built up on Wairere Dr on either side of the closure.”
