Three cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the Waitomo district.

Three cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in the Waitomo district.

Three people in the Waitomo district have tested positive for Covid-19. They are the first reported cases within the district.

Mayor of Waitomo John Robertson announced the news this morning on his Facebook page.

"Last night I was advised that three cases of Covid-19 had been confirmed in the Waitomo District. These are the first reported cases in our district," John wrote.

In the Waikato region there are currently 76 confirmed cases according to the most up to date data on the Ministry of Health's website.

John said in his post that the three cases in the Waitomo district reinforces the need to keep safe, keep others safe, be kind and respectful and stay home.

"We can limit the spread of this virus by respecting the rules of the lockdown," John wrote.

"Covid-19 numbers in New Zealand are expected to continue to rise over the next week, but if we all stick to the rules, the spread will slow down later in April and the case numbers should begin to decline."

"It's up to all of us to come together to win this battle."
