Burglars reverse car into Raglan clothing shop for second time in a month

A Raglan clothing store has been the target of yet another ram raid.

But this time, there were not only more burglars involved, in the theft from Fallenfront on Wainui Rd, but more stock was taken.

Owner Steve Crowhurst is gutted his shop has been targeted again. He says the shock of it all is still sinking in and he's not sure what the future holds.

"Last time I was quite pragmatic about it but I'm just bummed, just over it."

A 16-year-old was arrested over the earlier ram raid which caused a large amount of damage.

But in the interim, all Crowhurst wants to do is get the shop cleaned up and open again as soon as possible.

A group of four men, travelling in a white sedan - either a Honda or Mazda, reversed the vehicle into the store at 1.50am this morning.

All four were involved in stealing everything from shoes to hoodies with many more brands being stolen this time.

"I just saw the video of the car back through the shop, about 1.50am this morning, but there were four of them this time instead of two, so they grabbed heaps more.

"They were going for 90 seconds and just running in and out but they took way more this time... the whole till and computer."

After the last ram raid, about 3.30am on Waitangi Day, Crowhurst and his staff got the shop reopened later that day.

A large amount of footwear was stolen. Brands include New Balance, Reebok and Adidas.

This time, he's hoping to do the same.

The store was still boarded up, which meant the cost of the burglary would be less, as the replacement door was yet to be installed.

Last time it cost $15,000 just to repair the shop front and including stock and other expenses it pushed the total near $25,000.

This time he estimates more than $10,000 in stock was taken. Clothing brands stolen include Champion, Adidas, Insight, Huffer, Zanerobe, Ksubi, Dickies and Thing Thing, while footwear was Adidas, New Balance, Reebok and Converse.

Crowhurst said he had owned businesses all around the world and it was his first time setting up in Raglan.

"This little shop complements our website, it's just a little concept store and I guess we've got the gear that they're after at the moment.

"I'm pretty over it but it means that we just need to work with the council and spend a whole lot of money and put bollards up. We're going to have to secure the sidewalk so cars can't come in on an angle."

He was thankful for the support from the community last time it happened. This time, he plans to re-open with a "ram raid sale" that will run all weekend.

"To make [stocktake] a little bit easier for us I'm going to have a ram raid sale, it just means there's less stuff to re-check and just provide a bit of monetary relief. I think I'll do it all weekend.

"You've got to try and make light of the situation, I suppose."
