Diners have complained after a child defecated on the slide at a McDonald's playground.

A McDonald's spokesman this morning confirmed the incident happened and said it took staff 10 minutes to clean it up.

He said management had reviewed CCTV and discovered the first complaint was made at 2.50pm. Another customer then came to the counter at 2.56pm, and the matter was passed on to the manager. A staff member began cleaning the slide at 3pm.

The spokeman said the incident was mishandled, leading to a delay in cleaning.

However, he said comments on social media about the incident were exaggerated.

An earlier version of this story contained comments from a man who claimed to be a witness to the incident. However, the Herald was unable to verify his comments and they have been removed.
