A kayaker out for an evening paddle found a body in the Waikato River this evening.

The kayaker found the body while paddling near Ann St in Hamilton.

Police were alerted to the body at 7pm and are working to recover it.

Following that, enquiries will be made to establish the circumstances around the death.
