Two non members were honoured for outstanding community service at this week's Rotary Club of Hamilton meeting.
Career insurance broker Ken Williamson and Waikato Security Service's Chris Mangan were awarded Paul Harris Fellowships, one of the highest accolades Rotary can confer.
Chicago attorney Paul Harris founded Rotary International in 1905.
Chris Mangan is a fourth generation Hamiltonian with a passion for the city. He started his working life as a security officer, trained as a mechanic and returned to head one the region's most successful security companies.
Ken Williamson sold out of commercial brokers Law Mooney Williamson some years ago and is a partner in Crombie Lockwood.
Despite more than 30 years in insurance broking, Ken has always found time to serve the community.
He is a member of the University of Waikato Foundation and a mentor in the Waikato King Country Young Enterprise Scheme.
He has chaired gaming trusts and is a trustee of the Lion Foundation and is involved with Maori Women's Refuge, the McKenzie Centre Trust, St Johns, the Institute of Directors, the Magic Netball franchise, Air Training Corps, Waikato Bays Tennis and school boards.
Chris Mangan has been with Waikato Security Services for more than 26 years. He says he works with a terrific group of people and genuinely loves what he does.
He is a trustee of the Ossie James DC3 Conservation Trust, a trustee of Hospice Waikato and a director of a company which runs a chain of laundromats.
Among his skills he lists 'making things happen' and 'social responsibility'.
