Hamilton singer Anna Saxton is training with a vocal coach to the stars.

Anna, 18, travels to Auckland every weekend to see Stuart Clarke, who trained in the United States with Seth Riggs, trainer of Michael Jackson and Madonna.

She also has Dave Stroud, the vocal coach of Justin Bieber, Jordan Sparks and Demi Lovato, at arm's reach or at least through a computer, she laughs. Anna is doing a mentoring course through Skype with Dave.

Dave recently came to New Zealand for a mentoring vocal workshop with Daniel Bedingfield.

Anna was lucky enough to attend alongside some top New Zealand artists.

"It was an awesome experience and I learnt heaps about the music business. I'm really lucky to get the opportunity to do all these things," the bubbly rock chick says.

From Cambridge, Anna is studying music at Wintec.

"It's fabulous working with like-minded people and the talent they have is a positive for up-and-coming New Zealand musicians."

Singing around the house from a very young age, Anna says music is it. "I will be doing it for the rest of my life."

She also is the lead singer in band, Contrast Theory. After a month of being together they did their first song and put it up on YouTube. It got picked up by a Wellington record label Southern Collective Music.

"I always had a clear focus on the direction of the band and the music," she says.

Contract Theory is a five piece original pop/rock band with Anna on vocals, Lee McKenzie on drums, Sam Barnett on rhythm guitar, Daniel Fuller on lead and Bryce Robinson on bass. "We also have four more songs recorded at Auckland's prestigious York Street Studio's and we're working on new material with some exciting sounds."

"I think it's so important as a singer if you are going to have longevity in the industry to make sure you have good vocal technique which doesn't strain the vocal chords so you can keep gigging and touring."
