Jason Collins (Rafi Gavron) gets caught up in such a mess.
His so-called mate gets caught importing and selling ecstasy. To reduce his prison time, he names Jason and sends him pills.
Caught red-handed, Jason faces 10 years behind bars.
Jason's estranged father, John (Dwayne Johnson), is distraught at what the future holds for his son and vows to do whatever is necessary to help him.
He manages to convince the district attorney, Joanne Keeghan (Susan Sarandon), that he can get inside a gang and deliver her some big scalps.
In return, his son's sentence will be dramatically reduced.
But his challenge is fraught with significant dangers and he has no experience dealing with the gangs and cartels he comes into contact with.
He realises his life, and that of his family, are in grave danger if his true motives are exposed.
First transporting drugs, then millions of dollars worth of cash, John must stay true to his story of being a struggling business owner looking to prop up his trucking operation. And with eyes and ears all around him that cannot be trusted, he knows his next step could be his last.
Johnson makes a good fist of his first dramatic role. He is no Al Pacino but he does play the part of a worried and caring father well.
And that this sort of thing really happens in the States makes this movie very watchable.
