If you're anything like me, then you loved playing with Lego as a kid (and probably still do as an adult). But because Lego video games bear no resemblance to the physical act of constructing random things with Lego bricks, fans are at a bit of a loose end.
Fortunately, a hugely popular PC game called Minecraft fills that void beautifully, and now it has come to the TV screen on the Xbox 360.
Minecraft is a game that doesn't exactly have a point as such. Those gamers who prefer to be guided through a linear game will be bored within minutes and lambast Minecraft as a waste of time. And they'd be right. Minecraft is indeed a waste of time - a glorious, thoroughly engrossing, complete waste of time.
It's one of those games where you sit down on Saturday afternoon intending to muck around for a few hours and the next thing you know it's Sunday morning.
In Minecraft, you are placed in a world - a blank canvas, so to speak - and you must mine resources to build, well, almost anything. From a tiny shack with a door to enormous castles made of gold and filled with luxurious furniture ... if you have the resources to build it, then you can.
Building must be done in daylight hours, though, as night brings all manor of nasty creatures. You'd better make sure you have somewhere secure to bed down until morning.
You can play online, split screen with a friend or solo, but beware - once Minecraft gets a hold on you, be prepared to lose a lot of sleep.
