A Rotorua hockey team is celebrating a third national tournament final. The Bay of Plenty Hatch Cup team reached the finals for a third year and followed tradition by finishing runners-up.
Coach Donna Keaney said the tournament was "a great all-round team performance".
Most valuable player was Ethan Martin and a special mention was made for the outstanding goalkeeping of Teven Glyde.
The team was co-captained by Te Hiraka Chase and Declan Keaney, with both boys showing excellent leadership.
Roger Broad was a second coach and the team was managed by Kati Mako.
"We were hopeful they would win and thought they had a good chance but it wasn't to be," Mako said. "In the history of the Hatch Cup, Bay of Plenty has only got to the final three times and Donna has coached two of those teams."
