Waiariki MP and Maori Party co-leader Te Ururoa Flavell is spearheading a programme which will focus on developing the leadership skills of those people who will drive the future development of Te Arawa.
The iwi leadership programme, Te Arawa Rangatakapu 2015, will be provided by Te Pumautanga Charitable Trust and J.R McKenzie Trust. It will be delivered by Te Arawa Tangata and facilitated by Taria Tahana and Ana Morrison with contributions from a range of well-known and respected leadership speakers.
The programme will provide a wananga environment where future Te Arawa leaders can refine their skills, knowledge, thinking and relationships so as to guide Te Arawa to a healthy and prosperous future.
It will focus on four key themes: cultural, political, social and economic leadership within Te Arawa. It also aimed to empower participants to actively contribute to the future development of Te Arawa and create a network of established leaders and peers to support rangatakapu (the generation between rangatahi and pakeke) in their development.
The opportunity is being open for emerging rangatira from Nga Uri o Te Arawa between the ages of 25 and 49 years who will have already demonstrated leadership abilities in a range of forums within Te Arawa.
Candidates will need to have leadership experience, knowledge and a passion and commitment for Te Arawa development. They will be keen to explore how to improve their leadership within the context of Te Arawa.
Potential participants need to complete an application form, including a CV and endorsement from a roopu tautoko - a group that supports the applicant eg. hapu/iwi organisation, marae, place of work.
Application forms must be completed and returned to Te Pumautanga o Te Arawa by Saturday, February 28.
These can be accessed online with further information available at http://tpota.org.nz/rangatakapu/ or from Te Pumautanga o Te Arawa Office, 8 Marguerita St, Rotorua.
