One man has died following a crash on SH32 at Tihoi, north-west of Taupo, last night.
The crash happened around 8.15pm when a Holden Commodore lost control and struck a bank, police have reported.
The driver and sole occupant, who was in his 20s, was thrown from the vehicle and died at the scene.
A police spokesman said initial inquiries indicated it was a high-speed crash and they have confirmed the driver was not wearing a seatbelt.

A serious crash investigation is underway and no details of the driver will be released until next of kin have been informed.
