One person has died following a single-vehicle crash on Taihape Rd, near Hastings, on Friday.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Pukehamoamoa at 7.50am.

The road was closed and diversions were in place until just before midday.

The serious crash unit is investigating.

It follows a double fatality on the road last month.

The two-car crash killed both drivers, Kirsty Michelle Parsons, 26, of Hastings, and Wiremu John Armitage, 31, also of Hastings, late on May 10.

Last Sunday, five people narrowly avoided significant injuries after their car rolled into a drain on Taihape Rd.

Witnesses at the scene said two were trapped in the vehicle, which was lying on its roof in the water, for several minutes after the crash on Sunday, about 11.30am.

According to NZTA, seven people have died on Hawke's Bay roads from January 1 to June 13, not including today's fatality.

Two people died on a State Highway, while five were on a local road.
