One person has been seriously injured during a aggravated burglary during the early hours of this morning.

Emergency services were called to an address on Kennedy Rd at 12.47am.

A St John Ambulance spokeswoman said they attended, with police and transported one patient to Hawke's Bay Hospital.

A Hawke's Bay District Health Board spokeswoman confirmed they had a male patient, in his 50s, who was in a stable condition.

This afternoon, she said the patient had been transferred to Hutt Hospital for further treatment.

A police spokesman said the investigation is in the early stages but Police can confirm that one person who lives at the address was taken to hospital with "serious but not life threatening injuries".

The scene was secured and Police are conducting a scene examination today.

"One of the offenders is believed to have left the Kennedy Road area on a bicycle and may have cut themselves during the incident," they said.

"Initial inquiries suggest this is an isolated incident and there is no reason for the wider community to be concerned."

If anyone has any information that may assist this investigation please call Napier Police on 06-831 0700 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
