Fatal crash in Hawke's Bay

Police have confirmed a man was killed in a crash in Hastings this morning.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Swamp Rd, between Puketapu and Fernhill.

A police spokesman said they were called about 11.30am to the crash, where it appeared a car had gone off the road and into a drain.

The man had been the car's only occupant, and there were no other vehicles involved in the crash - which occured between Pirau Rd, and Omarunui Settlement Rd.

Police were unable to confirm any details about the man as his next of kin were still being notified.

The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash

A St John Ambulance spokesperson said they had been called for assistance, but that an occupant of the car was dead on arrival.

A fire service spokesperson said two appliances were called to the scene.

The road has reopened.
