A spelling mistake at Splash Planet amusement park in Hastings has seen the local sign-writing company responsible for the blunder foot the bill.

The error, which has now been fixed, was spotted by staff yesterday morning.

A Hastings District Council spokeswoman said the initial work was done on Sunday by a private company contracted to paint the car park in time for season opening yesterday.

"Council cannot say what caused it - our concern was to contact the company to get the errors fixed. How it happened is a matter for that company to resolve."

The area for "emergency vehicles" was instead written "emergancy vehicels".

Splash Planet declined to comment on the incident.
