Traffic is backing up in Napier after a two-crash, with one car carrying an infant passenger.

Hawke's Bay expressway traffic is backing up due to the crash on the Hyderabad Rd and Prebensen Drive intersection.

A police spokeswoman said emergency services were called to the crash just about 4.30pm.

She said it appeared a truck carrying a container had been involved in a collision with a Mazda.

An ambulance was not yet on the scene, but police believed there were no serious injuries.

The spokeswoman said there were three passengers in the Mazda, one of whom was trapped in the front.

A woman was in the back seat of the car with a baby - she was reported to have neck pain, but the baby was fine.

There was no information about the condition of the truck driver.
