Engelbert Humperdinck

Engelbert Humperdinck

Engelbert Humperdinck found a classic performer from his vintage in Napier - a 1936 Buick.

The 80-year-old wowed an audience at the Napier Municipal Theatre last night.

He posted his find to his Facebook page:

Met this little Buick beauty during my travels in New Zealand. She is circa 1936, just like me. #travelinboy #vintagecar #newzealand - in Napier, New Zealand.

The 60s sensation, who is best known for hits such as (Please) Release Me and Ten Guitars, is doing six shows in New Zealand

Recently, Humperdinck told Hawke's Bay Today he started performing in 1967 and hasn't stopped since.

His 1967 hit, Release Me launched his career.

It was number one on popular music charts for six weeks in a row, preventing The Beatles' single Penny Lane and Strawberry Fields Forever from reaching the top. It became one of the best selling singles of all time with sales of 1.38 million copies.

He has sung with the likes of Dean Martin, Bing Crosby and Elton John, to name but a few.
