Police swiftly nabbed three burglars thanks to the quick actions of concerned citizens yesterday.

Police received a report at 10am of suspicious activity from a Florence St resident, who saw two people using a chair to climb a fence to enter a property, said Eastern District Acting Senior Sergeant Clint Adamson.

"We cordoned off the area and apprehended them on Oliphant Rd," Mr Adamson said.

A 19-year-old man and a 21-year-old woman, both from Hastings, were charged with burglary.

In a separate incident at 2.35pm, police received a report of two people running into a house on Mayfair Ave and leaving quickly with goods taken from the address.

"We got a really good description of the vehicle and a partial licence plate. [We] were able to ascertain who it was likely to be. As a result of inquiries a local 17-year-old was apprehended."

Mr Adamson praised the people who reported the suspicious behaviour.

"These people have taken the time to call us and have given us really good descriptions. As a result these people are off the street.

"If anyone witnesses suspicious behaviour it is absolutely worthwhile to phone the police."
