Mike Williams says Western BOP District Council needs more diversity. Made with funding from NZ On Air.

Western Bay of Plenty District Council Deputy Mayor Mike Williams is retiring.

In one of his final interviews he says the council is in need of more diversity.

"At the moment it's what a lot of people would say is pale, stale and male."

He also emotionally thanked the donor family, whose kindness and generosity meant he was able to receive a new heart.

See the video for the full interview.
