Te Hiku Community Board granted $4000 to Savour Northland for its 2026 festival, and Bay of Islands–Whangaroa Community Board granted $15,379 for each of its next two festivals, scheduled for this year and 2027.
Board members said they recognised the festival’s importance in supporting the regional economy, attracting visitors and creating opportunities for communities to come together.
The March funding decisions highlight the community boards’ commitment to supporting initiatives that reflect the rohe’s identity and create positive outcomes for residents.
The region’s food and beverage industry came together in the Bay of Islands in November to mark the culmination of the month-long Savour Northland celebration with the 2025 Awards Night.
In last year’s Savour Northland, which ran from October 1 to 31, 54 events were held and more than 2200 challenge dishes were sold across 24 participating venues.
Far North District Council community board decisions at their April meetings provided more funding for community events and groups.
The Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board granted $3560 to this year’s Bay of Islands Country Rock Festival, while the Kaikohe-Hokianga board approved $3000 for a youth sports event.
Te Hiku’s board awarded $5000 to Ahipara Coastal Patrol for its kaitiaki summer programme promoting safe driving, cultural respect and environmental care in the area.
The board also gave $13,413 to the Muriwhenua Education and Sports Hub for carpark and mezzanine upgrades.
