Police were called to Wekaweka Rd in Waimamaku, South Hokianga, about 8.45pm on Sunday.

Police were called to Wekaweka Rd in Waimamaku, South Hokianga, about 8.45pm on Sunday.

A Far North property where police are investigating a man’s unexplained death is for sale and is reportedly where a three-bedroom home burned down under suspicious circumstances about three or four years ago.

Emergency services were called to the rural Wekaweka Rd property in Waimamaku, south of Hokianga Harbour, about 8.45pm on Sunday.

Police said the man was found dead.

Northland CIB Detective Senior Sergeant Christan Fouhy said the man’s death was being treated as unexplained.

A scene and post-mortem examination were underway, Fouhy said.

Wekaweka Rd is off State Highway 12, near Tane Mahuta in the Waipoua Forest.

The Northern Advocate understands the property was listed for sale after a man and woman living there separated.

The property is reportedly under contract.

The Wekaweka Rd address once had a three-bedroom house on site.

However, a source said it burned down in a suspicious fire about three or four years ago.

Several old sheds and other out buildings are on the property.

Police have asked anyone with information to phone 105, quoting reference number 260518/2990 or Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
