I would like to give a huge vote of thanks to everyone who played a part in our wonderful opening ceremony of the Green Shed (processing centre to boost Hospice funds).

And not only to those who were there, but also to each and every one of you who worked to bring this long-awaited facility into being.

As chair, it was so gratifying to hear the support and praise from the Minister of Health and to hear his appreciation for the fantastic work done by Hospice Mid Northland.

Each of our speakers spoke of the importance of our volunteers, who, right across all our activities, play such an important role. It was really pleasing to see Norma cutting the ribbon with the Minister — well done Norma!

And this has been a mighty project. Great credit must be given to Belinda, who has led the team, liaised, cajoled and encouraged and brought us to where we are today. We are so fortunate that our team of fantastic nurses are able to deliver their totally free service, supported by our staff, our volunteers and our community.

It has long been a huge concern to the board that the old sorting centre had totally outlived its purpose, and a priority has been looking to provide a building fit for purpose, and fit for our volunteers to work safely and comfortably in. At last we are there.

So again, thank you. To Far North Holdings, who have project-managed, pro bono, for us, to Shed Boss and all the sub-contractors who have worked on the site, to the designers, the engineers, the list goes on and on.

The family/whanau of Hospice of Mid Northland has much to be proud of, and I feel privileged to be part of it.
