One driver in particular will be hoping to make tomorrow memorable by claiming five wins in a row at the Northland Car Club's annual Ruakaka Street Sprint.
Jason Gill has won the event in his Mitsubishi Evo 9 for the last four years in a row, and will be backagain to try and make it five.
The 2.3km tarmac event will be held on Sime Road, Kepa Road, and private Mighty River Power Roads.
Northland Car Club publicity officer Alan Strong said the event, which is now into its 12th year, will boast a variety of cars from 1300cc Starlets to BMWs and Mitsubishi Evolutions.
"It's a little bit different with racing being around the streets. There are not a lot of opportunities to race on streets. It attracts a lot of people," he said. "A lot of Aucklanders come up.
"It's just an ideal event for people to come and watch, with safe spectating and a big variety of cars to watch."
Strong added that the event was a good earner for the club with the extra entries helping keep them going. In recent years numbers in the sport had declined.
The event will start at about 10am and go until 3pm. There would be plenty of parking and food stands available, Strong said.
