South Auckland jockey Leith Innes should be in for another bumper day tomorrow at Ruakaka.

Innes had a stellar day at last weekend's Whangarei Racing Club's meeting bagging four winners and that success looks set to continue this week.

He is a strong chance to kick the day off the right way aboard Croatia in race one.

The Matamata gelding created a big impression in his first campaign placing in listed company and then finishing close up at Group One level at Ellerslie in March.

"By all accounts he is quite forward and does look particularly well placed in this event," agreed Innes.

"Not many in this field could finish three lengths from the winner in a Group One race."

Innes' next mount is the Graeme and Mark Sanders trained California Dancer in race three.

"Graeme said he just didn't quite see out the 1400 metres last time so the 1200-metre journey here looks ideal. The field doesn't look overly strong."

In race four Innes teams up with the steadily improving Trapiche.

"I rode him first up this campaign at Tauranga and really liked his run. The improved track conditions are going to suit and I believe he is a definite winning chance."

Innes rides former South Islander The Gordonian in race five.

"I rode him on a wet track at Pukekohe the other day and he went okay. He's perhaps no star but the 1400 metres and a good track is gojng to help him and he should run some sort of race."

Good Will looks a big hope for Innes in race six.

"With the horse's usual jockey James McDonald being away this looks a great pick up ride," commented Innes.

"He's got the blinkers on for the first time too."

Free Serve is another outstanding chance for Innes in race seven.

"He goes super well on his home course and the form around him looks very strong with the horse he beat here last time Thorny Chick winning the other day,"

Smoulder is Innes' mount in race eight.

"On the face of it she may have looked disappointing at Te Awamutu, but all they can put it down to is she doesn't like bad ground anymore. Graeme said her work has been good so I'm looking forward to renewing my association with her."

Innes rides Rioaviador in the final event. "She was perhaps a little disappointing last week but she does have ability and did win her maiden on this course. She is one for longer odds."

Another jockey who should have a good day is Sam Spratt.

Spratt has eight rides and labels Cool Storm in race four, Mygoodgrace race eight, and Orinda race nine as her best chances.

"I've got a pretty solid book but those three on paper appear to be my best," Spratt said.

"Cool Storm loves it up at Ruakaka and it was great to win last week for her connections. She steps up in class but will be very competitive."

Mygoodgrace is a track specialist and should run another bold race. "She has yet to win over 1600 metres, but is in great form and I think she will be very hard to beat."

Spratt thinks Orinda can provide some value to punters in the final event. "She drops back from a strong rating 75 for this and will be very competitive. She is going better than her form suggests."
