The premier grade game of the week was between Onerahi 1 and Semenoff Transport Fideliter 1, which Onerahi 1 won 43-40.
The encounter also saw the Dykzeul trophy (challenge format) change hands again, transferring from Fideliter 1 to Onerahi 1.
The match-up of Friday night was the two centre's Jayne Southee for Onerahi and Lara Tipene for Fideliter, both of whom play a fast, aerial and driving game. Onerahi 1 coach Colleen Glass said Sue Ann David in defence had a strong game, making it hard work for the Fideliter shooters.
However, a team effort saw them secure the narrow win. Fideliter 1 coach Carol McClintock said her team did well, especially to be only a goal behind in the first quarter.
Following Tracey Bradley's (wing attack) injury in the second quarter, Fideliter lost some momentum but it was the changes in the last quarter where Alisha Takimoana went to goal shoot, Helen Francis to goal keep and Tina Cachemaille-Bayne came on strong at wing defence that cumulated in them winning the final quarter.
Fideliter take a consolation point for being within five goals of Onerahi 1.
In the other games Manawanui continued its winning streak with a good win over Onerahi 2. For Manawanui the shooting combination of Judith Campbell and Gail Shepherd was quick, strong and dominant on attack. Manawanui's new defender Melanie Leef also had another strong defensive game.
Jess Lowe - the Onerahi 2 coach felt Tracey Stewart in defence for Onerahi 2 had a consistent game and kept good pressure on the shooters while Caitlin Mclean had a great game coming on at half time to play centre, with her drive, speed and determination.
With solid commitment by the team and accurate shooting by Rochelle Skelton, Onerahi 2 won the last quarter.
Manawanui, however, won confidently, 71-50.
Old Boys 1 also had another win, 69-21 over Pizza Barn BBC Waipu. On Saturday, WGHS 1 played Takahiwai and for half the game it looked like it was going to be a close match. WGHS coach Dee Telfer said it did take the team until the third quarter to pull away and Truely Harding fed the shooters well and opened up the mid-court when she moved to wing attack during the second half. WGHS 1 cranked it up a gear in the second half and won 63-42.
