Maungakaramea started the second round of the premier women's hockey competition with a 3-1 win over Whangārei Girls High School.
After losing to the school side in their first match, Maungakaramea showed they have been improving over the season and captain Jane Thomson is happy with how they are tracking.
"We are starting to gel much more as a team and improving with each game, which is what we set out to do," Thomson said.
Maungakaramea got on the board early when Anna Alexander made her way into the circle and powered one past the goalkeeper.
They kept on attack and converted again in the second quarter when Tara Wilson pounced on a loose ball in the circle to slot it into the corner.
