Waipu's up-and-coming netballers put on a professional display as they led from start to finish in their ANZ Collegiate Challenge win over Huanui College.
While Pizza Barn BBC/Waipu led the entire match, Huanui College had a particularly strong final quarter where they managed to match BBC Waipu's scoring rate.
ForBBC Waipu in their 40-33 win, the shooting combination of Danni Newton and Haylee Jensen used good ball speed and movement to shake off the Huanui defenders and shot well throughout. Jamie Newton at centre used her speed and aerial skills to link the defence and attack. Anna Worthington at goal defence worked tirelessly to counteract Huanui's competent shooters.
For Huanui College, Lucy Johnston in defence worked hard in the circle. At the opposite end, Jade Rakich Tuhiwai in the shooting circle played an excellent game and shot strongly consistently.
It was a similar scenario in the other collegiate game, with Manawanui Collegiate Red leading from start to finish against Whangarei Girls' High School 2 as they won 35-20.
They had a particularly dominant first and final quarter but only won the second and third quarters by a goal or two.
For Girls' High, Bella Drinnan at goal keep produced an outstanding work rate and came up with some good tips, intercepts and rebounds. In mid court, Maraea Marsden at centre and then goal attack provided speed on attack. Kelly Still at goal shoot was strong and shot consistently.
For Manawanui Collegiate Red, Kahli Reihana was strong in her positional play at goal attack and shot well. She was well supported by Annastassia Larkens in mid court who delivered some nice feeds into the circle. Tiana Harris Otene at goal defence and wing defence applied pressure and worked hard to get turnover ball.
