The DeWaal father and son duo didn't have luck on their hands at the Taipa Speedway's 'Swifty' Memorial Cup as both of their cars failed them after racing to an early lead.
Daniel and his father Craig thought things were falling into place when they sprinted off to an earlylead in the Memorial Production Cup. However, that thought was short-lived.
Craig developed an air-escaping right front tyre which let C Grader Tony Over through to give chase to a slowing Daniel, who had an engine-temperature problem during racing last weekend.
However, in Daniel's case luck stayed on his side just enough. Over got right up to the back of Daniel but could not make the pass before the finish line.
In other races, Roy Walker started on grid three for the Saloon 20-lap feature and passed first Shirl Andresen, then Tony Cree, to move into the lead for the win.
Andresen got the early jump on John Hussey in race three before Hussey pulled off an inside pass for the lead. Cree showed determination as he drove superbly from the back of the field to take second.
The Z Taipa Feature Saloon All-In was won by B Grader Rob Weal, whose V8 Buick loved the track conditions.
Weal managed to stay un-lapped through the 15 laps, followed by the hard-charging saloons of Cree and Max Andresen. Cree managed to pass Andresen with a few laps to go, while they were threading their way through slower traffic, and were right on the back of Weal by the chequered flag.
