Whangarei premier grade netball resumed after teams enjoyed a well-earned break last week.
At Kamo High School, Guyco Marist Old Girls were missing one of their specialist shooters but it did not appear to hinder them in their game against Takahiwai, which they confidently won, 63-41.
Nicky Taylor at goal shoot combined
with Rose Parker at goal attack as if they had always been playing together, while Cathy Gardner at wing attack had a strong game.
Leah Tourua Renei, goal keep for Takahiwai, did some good defensive work and Koea Kaka at goal attack did some good work, particularly through the mid court and feeding into the circle.
Captain Reanon Sadler in the mid court was a steadying influence and Takahiwai were rewarded in that they drew the last quarter. But it was too late and Marist chalked up yet another win.
At Whangarei Girls high School Whangarei Old Boys 1 took on Good Ground Fideliter 1.
This game started as a real match-up, with Fideliter 1 showing they were a team to be reckoned with.
The whole team played cohesively as a unit and managing to get some good ball into shooter Tina Cachemaile-Bayne, who positioned herself and shot well despite some tight marking by goal defender Judith Barber for Whangarei Old Boys.
After one of their players was injured, Fideliter 1 faltered a bit and some of the team changes implemented weren't as effective. It was not until the final quarter before Whangarei Old Boys 1 really stepped up a gear, with Lara Tipene's performance at centre and Trina Henare's performance at goal attack coming to the fore and cementing the 59-42 win.
Predicted to be the match-up of the evening, Manawanui Old Girls and WGHS 1 went head-to-head and did not disappoint.
Manawanui Old Girls let WGHS 1 get a solid lead going into the second quarter and they never really managed to catch this up, despite getting within three goals in the third quarter.
It was a fast-paced, action-packed game and for Manawanui, Rhiannon Reti did some brilliant goal circle and mid court defensive work, while  Judith Campbell provided some clever movements and excellent shooting at goal shooter.
For WGHS, Sian Telfer has a strong game at centre and Jamie Lee Tito at goal defence was effective in disrupting the Manawanui attacks.  WGHS won 74-63.
Flames Onerahi 1's 63-31 win over Atlas Cranes Fideliter 2 at Girls High was a predictable result, Onerahi 1 playing a fast, strong and dominant game.
For Onerahi 1, Miranda Jex Black at wing attack had an excellent positional and feeding game, while  Loren Weeks at goal defence was effective in making the Fideliter 2 attacks work - although Jessie McClintock Maihi and Rochelle van Iersel did put some nice shots in.
For Fideliter 2, Leilani Torine at goal keep also had a good game against an experienced goal shooter, and Louise Harvey in mid court did some good, but patient feeding of the ball to her shooters.
Overall, Onerahi 1 were too skilled and experienced for the Fideliter 2 team, winning 63-31, continuing their victory run.
