The long awaited Northland-wide under-16 rugby league club competition kicked off on Saturday. The Kaitaia Legends got off to a good start with a win over the Takahiwai Warriors in the competition, which is new to the North this year. They beat the visitors 50-0 with Sean Covich grabbing a hat-trick oftries. Meanwhile Hikurangi made their presence felt with a 96-14 hammering of Marist. Marist were outgunned in the contest but showed plenty of individual ability in the match.
