Fog over the Anderson Park circuit raised some concern over what the day would bring for the third round of the Kartsport Whangarei Club Championship.
As the fog lifted it was clear racing at the Business Coaching New Zealand Raceway for this important round was all go and would be very
hot.
The Clubsport 120 class had 14 competitors, two off the maximum on the circuit and the highest championship round entry.
It was surpassed this season only by the Summer Slam held last month which included drivers from three visiting clubs.
In the Cadets, Alyce McLean was first ahead of Todd Hughes and Jack Scott followed by Leo Scott and Larrissa Gregory. Not only are these young competitors showing promise, but the ratio of two girls to three boys is also encouraging especially with Alyce leading the field.
Thomas McLean finished ahead of Megan Dalbeth in the jUnior class and Tyler Tunnicliffe won from Waimaria Saunders and Joshua Gregory in the Clubsport 120 Juniors.
Martin Gleeson and Michael Smith battled on track together but with each winning their respective classes of Senior Yamaha Light and Senior Yamaha Heavy.
The Rotax field was just a trio, but was entertaining with multiple club champion Derek Tunnicliffe taking out the day ahead of Mike Smith and Brendon White.
In the 'mighty' Rakets 14 drivers competed for day honours plus points towards the championship with just one round in April.
Steve Carter won overall with defending champion Richard Macey in second place by the slimmest of margins. A draw in points left him to claim the place by highest finishes including two wins from five races on the day.
Third was recent graduate from the Junior class Cassandra Carter just one point behind Macey and her father with Chris Everitt fourth and Iain Whitaker fifth.
Rounding up the field from were Malcolm Devereux, Dan Woolhouse, Charles Hoare, Alan Hoare, Kyle Woodham, Blaire Scott, Andrew Gregory, Carl Montefiore and Ivan Barclay.
The next event for Kartsport Whangarei at the Business Coaching New Zealand Raceway is on Sunday, March 13, which is a Club Day. The fourth and final round of the club championships will be held on Sunday, April 10.
