Whangarei Boys High School are delighted after performances from their two golf teams who contested the Asia Pacific World School Championship, in Melbourne.
The school sent two teams of four managed by Phil Eady to last week's event and they were accompanied by their coach Quenton Diment, a Northland GolfClub professional.
The event was played on four of the sand belt courses out of Melbourne. Twenty-two teams competed, 10 and 11 from Australia and New Zealand respectively and one from Namibia.
The WBHS No 1 team won the event by 11 strokes and the No 2 (Colts) were ninth overall.
Coach Diment was impressed by both of the teams' performances as three of the courses they played was "sight unseen", and some very good scores resulted.
He stated all four courses would have been five to seven strokes more difficult than any they had ever experienced with "Scottish" type rough.
