The names of Vishaan and Kashmir Harypursat may not slip easily off the tongue right now for Northland cricket followers, but their performances for WBHS in yesterday's club cricket might mean they are names to follow over the next few years.
Playing for City in their clash against Kaipara Flatsin the second round of the Mark Cromie Holden 50 over competition, Vishaan scored 54, while not to be outdone, younger brother Kashmir scored a stirring 118 not out against Maungakaramea, guiding his side to an 8-wicket win and ensuring they remain unbeaten in the Reserve Grade.
In strong blustery conditions at Kensington Park, bowlers had their work cut out as the wind made both fielding and bowling a difficult exercise. An incredible total of 100 wides were bowled in the two premier games played here as the umpires enjoyed a busy day.
Batting for Onerahi against Boys High, converted opener Adam Sylva continued his good form with the bat in scoring 54. Well supported by Craig Russell (38) and Todd Beehre (26), Onerahi were seemingly well placed at 134 for 1. However, Ben Smith and Alex Tunstall, bowling spin for the first time, mastered the difficult conditions to at first restrict and then remove the Onerahi batsmen as they collapsed to finish on 181 for 9.
Not restricted to the bowling crease, Tunstall then scored 41 opening the batting as he, Ben Smith (26), Max Davis (24) and Dylan Jakicevich (19) all played their part in the chase.
In the other game at Kensington, Kaipara Flats were beaten for the first time this year as they failed to chase down City's score of 196 for 6 off their 50 overs. Harypursat and Harry Darkins both scored half centuries and Cities final score was well supported by the 41 extras including 30 wides. Kaipara Flats, depleted by representative absentees, were quickly in trouble at seven for three as English import Richard Atkins continued his fine bowling form. Only Kyran Dill (44) , Garnett (24) and van Dyk (31 not out) showed resistance as they fell short by 22 runs to be all out for 172.
Atkins was clearly the pick of the bowlers, taking four for 20 off his 10 overs.
In the other game at Maungakaramea, Englishman Dean Williams batted well in scoring 81 not out in Kamo's score of 227 off their 50 overs. Maungakaramea were never really in it and were dismissed for a disappointing 119, with Curtis Cherrington taking four for 33 for Kamo.
