Four Kerikeri Football Club teams will play their home games at the Domain this winter while the Far North District Council improves turf and drainage at the club's grounds at BaySport, Waipapa.
The council is helping the club move goalposts from BaySport to the Domain ahead of pre-season soccer matcheswhile the club is completing ground markings at the new pitch.
Saturday afternoon competition matches featuring Kerikeri Bay Builders men's premier team, Kerikeri Palmco men's premier reserve team and Kerikeri men's first division kick off on April 14; the Siteworx Northland women's team will play at the Domain on Sundays.
The teams will return to BaySport for the 2013 season.
The club hopes that bringing matches into town will boost the sport's profile; the Kerikeri Domain Trust has also welcomed the win-win scenario.
"This is a great illustration of the versatility of the Domain as a real multi-sport facility that can be used by a number of codes depending on need," trust chairman Mark Turner said.
Rugby league used the Domain last year but will move to the Bledisloe Domain pitch near Waitangi which was upgraded last year for the Rugby World Cup.
Junior rugby will continue to be played at the Kerikeri Domain on Saturday mornings.
