A woman wanted on warrants allegedly refused to stop for police in Northland and drove her van for just over an hour before police blocked a one-lane bridge.

Earlier this week Northland police posted on their Facebook page appealing for sightings of the 33-year-old woman, from Auckland, who was thought to be in the region or possibly in Waikato.

Police posted a photo and said the woman had a number of active warrants for her arrest for charges including threats to kill and criminal harassment. It was also noted she could be driving a white-coloured Nissan van.

Today the woman in her white van was spotted at a campground near Rawhiti, 43km north-east of Russell about 2pm.

Senior Sergeant Brian Swann said the woman allegedly made threats and attempted to run over one of the officers.

Police then followed the woman on Old Russell Rd until about 500 metres from the intersection of State Highway 1 where officers blocked a one-way bridge.

The Armed Offenders Squad was also called but stood down when the van had been safely stopped and the woman arrested about 3.10pm.

She was taken to Whangārei police station where she was being interviewed. It was likely she would appear in Whangārei District Court tomorrow on fresh charges.

Swann thanked members of the public who alerted police about the woman's location.
