Whangārei's annual Guy Fawkes event will bring bright lights, loud bangs, and lots of other entertainment to town.

The Whangārei Lions Club annual Fireworks Spectacular is on again tomorrowat Northland Events Centre.

Fireworks Committee chairman Merv Williams said there would be entertainment and delicious food to purchase in the lead up to the big display which will kick off as soon as it turns dark, about 8.30pm.

Williams said the popular event allowed families to enjoy fireworks in a safe environment.

"I think it's very important. It is Guy Fawkes and it removes the demand for parents to buy them, work them, and put the kids at risk," he said.

For the second year the display, which lasts for about 20 minutes, will be set to music.

Over the years the fireworks event has helped distribute significant funds back into the community.

Last year the Whangārei Lions Club donated $20,000 to Manaia PHO's counselling services - part of that donation included funds raised from the Fireworks Spectacular.

Williams said while the weather last year was a bit wet, he's checked the forecast for the weekend and the weather looked perfect.

"It's looking great. No rain and some clouds which is great to have the lights bouncing off the clouds."

Pre-display entertainment includes music, rides for kids, bouncy castles and more. There will also be an array of food stalls - many of which, Williams said, are fundraisers in their own right.

Gates open at 6pm and entry is $5 for school children otherwise $10, or $25 for a family of two adults and two children or one adult and three children.
