Have a cracker of a Guy Fawkes celebration tomorrow at this year's fireworks display at Toll Stadium in Whangarei.

It will be the 19th annual fireworks event hosted by Whangarei Lions clubs, and fireworks committee chairman Neil Davis is urging families to go along and have fun while also supporting the community.

"We do encourage people to come to the venue because we are fundraising for the community," he said.

The pyrotechnics were being delivered by Auckland-based Boom Boom Fireworks, with about $20,000 worth of ornaments going up - the same as in last year's event, he said.

Some of the fireworks were the largest size allowed under Civil Aviation Authority rules - shells around 10cm to 12cm wide.

"That's why we get the big star shells that give the nice big bursts overhead - they're the spectacular ones."

Also on show would be fireworks closer to the ground, so all members of the family could see them.

Tickets cost $10 for adults, $5 for children, and $25 for a family pass. Proceeds would go into community projects.

Gates will open at 6pm, with fireworks being let off at dark. "There's a full moon tomorrow night, so it will be spectacular."

Rules for the event include no alcohol, no fireworks brought in and no bad attitudes.

"Bring the happy face. Follow instructions, stay within boundaries prescribed - and no fireworks, no fireworks, no fireworks of your own.

"We've had situations where people have taken them in and let them off. Safety is paramount."
