Rolled car, Deveron St and Mill Rd, in the Regent, Whangarei.

Whangarei Police are investigating how a vehicle ended up on its roof on a flat road with a 50km/h speed limit during peak traffic time.

The crash happened in Deveron St, near the Mill Rd intersection, at about 4.30pm on Wednesday, and resulted in a person being taken by ambulance to Whangarei Hospital.

With Nixon St closed for road works, Deveron and other streets between Hatea Dr, Mill Rd and Kamo Rd are carrying higher density traffic than usual.

The crash at peak time caused traffic to bank up, requiring police to control the nearby intersections. At edition time, there was no information available on the condition of the car's occupant or the cause of the crash.
