A Denby byelection candidate says she has no affiliation with the Labour Party despite some of her billboards bearing a "Let's do this" slogan.

The "Let's do this" slogan was used by Labour Party during the October general election.

This week, Huhana Lyndon has put stickers across her billboards with "Let's do this" and "Let's do this Denby" in red lettering.

Fellow Denby candidate Kevin Newton has questioned whether the slogan and the red lettering suggested an affiliation to or endorsement by the Labour Party.

"Because there's no declared endorsement and this change is only recent.

"My understanding is none of the candidates are aligned with any political parties."

Ms Lyndon said she was not endorsed by the Labour Party and was aware the slogan had been used by them.

"I'm aware, but my slogan as per my Facebook page is 'let's do this Denby'."

Ms Lyndon acknowledged some election signs simply say "Let's do this" because she had to trim the Denby to make the stickers fit on the signs.

As for the colours, she said she is of Te Orewai and Ngati Hau descent and their colours are red. It is also her favourite colour and goes well with the gold colour on her billboard.

She added she was not a Labour Party voter.

"If I was endorsed, I would be rocking it loud and proud."

Ms Lyndon said she had refreshed her campaign as it went into the home straight and the stickers and slogan were part of that.

The stickers went on her billboards on Tuesday evening, while the hashtag has been used on her Facebook page since November 13.

"I'm looking for catchy slogans as I rev up my campaign."
