An eight-year-old girl seriously injured after being struck by a truck is in a stable condition in Whangarei Hospital.
The girl was hit by a truck near the pedestrian crossing on State Highway 1 outside Otaika shops, just south of Whangarei city, about 3.40pm yesterday.
Hospital staff this morning confirmedshe was in a ward and stable.
Sergeant Lance Goulsbro of Northland Police Highway Patrol said there were conflicting witness statements about whether the girl had been on the pedestrian crossing when she was hit. The police investigation would continue today.
