Two teens lead police on a high speed chase through Whangarei.
Two 15-year-olds allegedly led police on a chase in a stolen car and rammed a police vehicle during the 40-minute pursuit.
Police spokeswoman Sarah Kennett said officers saw a car speeding along Maunu Rd near Whangarei Hospital yesterday and made attempts to stop the car but it sped off about9.25am.
Mrs Kennett said the chase was suspended while the car sped through busy areas.
"The fleeing driver was going through a built-up suburban area near schools. Police began searching for the car in the area and it was spotted again."
The car travelled along Mangakahia Rd to Titoki and allegedly reached speeds of 120km/h to 140km/h.
The driver has been charged with unlawfully taking a motor vehicle, failing to stop, resisting arrest and two charges of aggravated assault in relation to the ramming of a police car and the attempted ramming of another police car.
The passenger also faces charges and both were scheduled to appear in the Whangarei Youth Court yesterday.
