A logging truck crash in the Bay of Islands this morning was caused by a medical condition.

Residents on Koropewa Rd, Waipapa, called emergency services about 3.40am when the truck veered off the road and crashed into a garden.

The driver, a 57-year-old man, could not be revived.

It is understood he had a heart condition.

Police were still at the scene this morning waiting for a specialist tow truck from Whangarei.
