An increase in building in Northland could be behind the growing popularity of an event featuring more than 160 home and living exhibitions, the organiser says.
The IC Motor Group Home Show, organised by NZME, is the largest show of its kind in Northland featuring a range of exhibitions featuringkitchens, spas, pools, solar panels, security and more.
Leanne Broderson, event co-ordinator, said around 10,000 people are expected to attend the three day event, which begins today, and said it has 'definitely' become more popular with both businesses and members of the public.
"There is a lot of building going on and Whangarei is a growing area. People are coming to see ideas for new homes," she said.
This is the third home show hosted by NZME. There were 140 exhibitors at the first event in 2015, more than 150 last year, and this year it is fully booked with 164 stands.
One feature of the show which has become particularly popular is the passport card.
Ms Broderson said 28 exhibitors participate and people who visit those stands receive a stamp on their passport card. Once they have collected all stamps there is a draw and a $6300 prize up for grabs for one lucky person.
"That's been a real big draw card and people love it," she said.
In addition to the home exhibitions there will also be food stalls.
The event will run from 10am to 5pm today, tomorrow, and Sunday at ASB Stadium.
